BIENNIAL SYMPOSIUM OF OUTDOOR SCULPTURE

The symposium will be held in the city of O Grove (Pontevedra) and the works performed will become the property of the city.
The duration will be 24 days, between September 20 and October 13, 2019.
Participants must arrive for the opening ceremony and start again after the award ceremony. The Municipality will not bear the costs caused by previous arrivals or departures after the indicated days.

Material

The material used is granite, in any of the varieties present in Galicia, and extracted where available from the Municipality.
The dimensions of the block to be used are limited to a maximum of 1.80 x 1.80 x 0.50 meters (1'62 m3) or similar dimensions will be provided within the reference volume.

Tools and workplace

Each participant will use their own tools. The organization will provide compressed air and electricity on site, as well as chisels and pointers. Each participant will be given a diamond or granite disc to perform his work, if necessary. The stones can be cut on the sculptor's indication, only if indicated in the application proposal.

Theme

Free theme. The work must be realized in granite and the application of paintings or other material to cover the work will not be allowed. However, if the proposal envisages a combination of granite with other materials such as metal or wood, the organization will assess any technical and economic feasibility and decide whether it will be possible to carry out the project.

Food, lodging, travel expenses

The organization

  • will support the travel expenses of the selected participants.
  • will provide food and lodging for the participants from 20 September to 13 October inclusive.

 

In no case will the organization be responsible for expenses such as those arising from visits by friends or family members of sculptors during the event.

Selection of participants

The jury will be composed of: an architect, an engineer or a graduate in fine arts, an artist or art critic, the mayor or councilor of O Grove or his representative, a member of the tourist sector Consello, designated by him.
The jury will select the sketches or proposals considered feasible in the weeks following the deadline for the presentation.
The sketches and the models sent to participate in the symposium will become the property of the city. Proposals submitted will not be returned.
The organization will communicate the outcome of the selection to the participants as soon as possible.
The judges' decision is final.

Insurance

The organization will sign the insurance to cover the sculptors for their participation in the symposium.

Catalog

A catalog will be created with photos of the artists and their works. Each participant will be given 5 copies of this catalog.

Awards

The following prizes will also be awarded:
1st prize: 1,500 euros and diploma.
2nd prize: 900 euros and diploma.
3rd prize: 500 euros and diploma.
All prizes are subject to tax deduction.
The prizes will be credited with the prerequisite of completing the work.
The prizes will be credited to the account provided by the sculptor. This requires you to provide a bank certificate with your account number and a copy of your passport
During the Symposium, the sculptor must be willing to contact the requested public and media.
The event will take place in any weather conditions.
Artists cannot be absent without the organization's authorization at any time during the duration of the symposium.

The deadline for the receipt of the proposals is June 3, 2019, at 14h.
