2021 FELLOWSHIP RESIDENCY - Franconia Sculpture Park

The Franconia Fellowship supports emerging, mid-career, and established artists, and is open to local, national, and internationally based artists. We provide time, space, and resources for artists towards the development, production, and installation of their work. Franconia work facilities include: an outdoor 10,000 square-foot work pad and woodshop with dedicated equipment for sculptural fabrication; a shared flex space; a Skutt kiln with Zone 10 capability; and access to public spaces at Franconia Commons; including a café, gift shop, and exhibition space.

ELIGIBILITY

  • Be 21+ years of age, showing a strong professional working history.
  • Stay for a minimum of three weeks to three months.
  • Multiple disciplines are accepted, including but not limited to, sculpture, land art, ceramics, contemporary craft, experimental sound/music, socially engaged art, multidisciplinary art, installation, and performance.
  • Small collaborative groups of two may apply with one designated lead. Collaboratives must combine shared professional experience into one resume with both artists listed.
  • International artists may apply.
  • Alumni are welcome to reapply.
  • Artists may be accompanied by a child or spouse with pre-approval and pending availability.
  • Artists interested in other residency opportunities will need to submit a separate application and accompanying application fee.

 

ASSISTANCE

  • Fellows receive a $5000 stipend to create a finished work to be installed or presented at Franconia Sculpture Park for up to two years
  • Professional development opportunities such as: access to visiting curators; studio visits, field trips; public talks; workshops; and the potential to revisit Franconia as an alumni member
  • Technical training
  • Production Support by Emerging Artist Residents upon request and pending availability
  • Production Support by Site Managers upon request and pending availability
  • Access to the Twin Cities arts community

 

EXPECTATIONS

  • Fellows complete work for installation or presentation at the sculpture park
  • Provide mentorship and instruction to Emerging Artist Residents who participate in our work-exchange residency
  • Prepare a communal dinner for the other residents once a week
  • Fellows participate in an Artist Talk
