10th Tehran International Sculpture Symposium

The 10th Tehran International Sculpture Symposium is held by Tehran Beautification Organization, and will take place from February 19 to March 12, 2021. Considering the defined perspective of the symposium, in the tenth period of holding the event, the organizers intend to stabilize and promote Iran’s position in the region regarding art of sculpture.
Based on the approach adopted by policy making council and symposium organizers, due to specific conditions of this period, the following items have been emphasized:

  • There will be emphasis on the presence of national artists for the main and performance section of the symposium in this period.
  • Anticipation of necessary measures in holding the symposium in unique circumstances of the epidemic.
  • Emphasis on the side activities of the event including forming a study and content production group consisting teams of research, documentation, etc. in order to use the capabilities of the cyberspace in displaying the event activities.
  • Holding specilized webinars with presence of international and national artists and experts.
  • Considering if the works are site and location oriented and their potential in relating to the environment and the audience, as well as factors such as: installation, expansion in space, location feature and landscape capabilities.

 

Materials
Each selected artist for the main part of the symposium will be supplied with a total of 2.5 to 3 cubic meters of light marble. This does not include the base.
In case an artist needs a base for their final installation of the work, its dimensions has to be mentioned in the registration form.
In this period, artists can add a second material (iron) up to 10% of the volume of their proposed stone, in which case the artist must list the required materilas and equipment along with an explanation on how to implement it. This needs to be mentioned in the registration form at the appointed time.
It needs to be mentioned that all the productions steps for the stone part has to be completed by the artist.
Also, for the material section, under authorization of the site manager, a metal workshop will be built simultaneously and jointly next to the symposium in the workshop area where the metal parts will be worked on at the same time.
In this period, in the side section of the symposium, eache student will be supplied with one cubic meter of stone (desired dimensions).

Work
The symposium will provide every artist with a grinding machine, a mini-grinding machine (available in the domestic market), a cutting disc and a grinding wheel (one each).
Artists could bring other personal tools they need.
There will be a crane in the working area that can buu sed jointly after informing the site manager.

Selection of Iranian artists
Iranian artists will be selected on the bases of their dossier of application. This will be a two stage process as follow.
First stage: the selection of works will be based on the resume, photos of the proposed design and explanations on how the artists will perform the work. 25 artists will be selected.
Each artist can submit up to three designs original and unpublished.
A list of the first stage selected artist will be announced by DEcember 26, 2020.
Second Stage: the selected artists whose works have been accepted in the first stage should send the model of their work to the secretariat for final judgment from January 9 to 13, 2021.
The model of selected works must be in the scale of 1/10 and made of final material.
Performance quality of the models of selected works presented to enter the symposium need to be professional.
The model of selected works will belong to the symposium secretariat, and will be displayed in the side exhibition section.
For the invited people section, 2 Iranian artists will be invited based on the votes and consulation of the Jury committee.
Also, in the side section, 8 sculpture students will be selected to perform their works in real dimensions.
A list of selected artists of the second stage will be announced by January 19, 2021.

International artist’s section
Due to the Corona crisis and ban on some flights, the selection of professional international artists (if any) will be limited and based on the judgment on their submitted designs and artistic resume.
This section is open to all professional artists.
Artists need to send their resume along with completed registration form and pictures of their proposed works to the email address below by January 13, 2021.
Each artist can submit up to three designs.
Selected artists must bring the model of their selected works to be displayed in the exhibition.
The model of selected works to realize, will belong to the secretariat of the symposium and all the right are reserved for the secretariat to use these works and their images on the site, brochures, catalogs.
The organizer will pay for accommodation and catering expenses for selected international artists.
The organizer also pays for a round-trip economy ticket up to 500 €.
Extra-persons accompanying the artist have to pay for their own costs, including catering and round-trip ticket.

Honorarium
All selected artists in the first stage will receive 70 million rial as their cost of the model.
Artists who are selected in the second stage receive 400 million rials at the end of the event and only if they complete their work.
Selected artists in student section receive 80 million rials at the end of the event.
