International Sculpture Symposium in Chile
The 5th International Sculpture Symposium “Grupo Nuestros Parques”, will take place in Santiago, Chile from the 8th to 22nd October 2017.
Elegibility
Ten artists will be chosen to participate in the symposium. These artists must have participated in at least three stone sculpture symposiums to be selected. Any artist can apply regardless of their nationality.
The work can be executed with the help of eight assistants qualified to work in marble.
Material
The material to be used is travertine marble from Calama, Chile.
Theme
The theme of the Symposium will be "The Diversity".
Sculptures and Copyrights
- The sculptures must be unpublished works.
- The sculptures created within the framework of the symposium will remain in possession of Grupo Nuestros Parques. Grupo Nuestros Parques will also have the rights to exhibit these sculptures in museums or in temporary exhibitions. The artist will allow filming and other documentation of their work and process. Nuestros Parques reserves the right to use this material for publicity purposes.
- The artist will deliver the artwork and give the rights to Grupo Nuestros Parques, which will determine the final location of the artwork (and the possibility of subsequent).
Food and Accommodation
For international artists and those residing outside of Santiago – The organization will provide transportation, accomodation, breakfast, lunch, and dinner (alcoholic beverages are not included). The artist will be wholly responsible for any costs incurred by any companion, partner, or associate.
For artists residing in Santiago – The organization will provide the artist with light meals (snacks) and lunches (alcoholic beverages are not included). The artist will be wholly responsible for any costs incurred by any companion, partner, or associate.
Travel Expenses
- Travel expenses for all foreign artists will be covered as follows: economy class ticket sent by the organization and transfer service from the airport (incoming and outgoing).
- The artists must remain at the Symposium’s work site during work hours and must respect the Symposium’s calendar. The artist must request permission for any given absence or early leave. Special cases will be excluded from this condition only if prior notice is given by the artist and approved by the committee.
- Each artist must bring a small-scale model of the selected work to be exhibited during the Symposium. It will be the responsibility of each artist to transport their own sculpture and should be no bigger than 38x38x38 cm (app scale 1:10).
- The artist must participate in all related activities of the event, in accordance with the accepted bases.
Press release
Nuestros Parques will design a catalog of the event, which will be published and distributed. Five copies of the catalog will be sent to the address provided by the artist.
Working Conditions:
- There will be a total of 12 working days.
- Grupo Nuestros Parques will provide each artist with 1,6 to 2m3 of Calama´s Travertine Marble (example for 1,6m3: first block 150 x 80 x 80 cm and the second block 100 x 80 x 80 cm; example for 2m3: one block 200x100x50cm and the other 100x100x100 cm). Sculpture must be self-supporting. In case of need any additional materials, the expenses will be responsibility of the artist.
- The artist must provide their own tools. The organization will provide one grinder 9” and 4 ½â€ť (exclusive for foreign artist), 220 volts of electricity, air compressor, crane, and extension cables to be used within the worksite with the appropriate security requirements.
- Each participant should consider accident insurance before participating in the event.
- The work site will be outdoors. The artists should be prepared for sudden changes in weather such as rain or heat wave.
- Grupo Nuestros Parques has the right to terminate the contract or pay only part of the fee if the work is not finished within the time table of the Symposium. In case of conflict ,Grupo Nuestros Parques will determine the continuity of the participant in the event.
Honorarium
Each artist who completes his/her artwork within the time frame and designated site will be given a net value of $1,800,000 Chilean pesos (CLP) as rate and copyrights. The payment will be made in cash: $ 600,000 CLP the first week and $ 1,200,000 CLP at the end of the Symposium.

HOW TO APPLY:
Documents required for official registration:
The participants of the Symposium will be selected based on the projects of the sculptures, sketches, and documents. All the necessary sketches and documents should be sent in digital format (total not exceeding 5 MB) to the website www.artenuestrosparques.cl no later than June 30 2017.
Applications larger than 5 MB or incompleted will not be accepted.
To apply to the Symposium, artists must send:
1. Completed and signed registration form
2. Model of the selected piece to be executed (scale to be determined by the artist)
3. Picture of the valid passport (the expiration date must be greater than 6 months)
The results of the selection will be announced on July 7 2017.
