21th Symposium of Changchun International Sculpture
Changchun invites sculptors for the 21th Symposium of Changchun International Sculpture with the theme of "City Development".
The production and installation of the works will be from July to August, and Exhibition in September 2020.
Urban sculptures will be built in the main public spaces such as green spaces, parks, and squares on both sides of the routes, and around the important public buildings that face to the streets. The purpose is to enrich the cultural connotation of street sculpture and form a centralized display route for sculpture works. Considering the main function of this section, the historical elements, and public art themes of metro line, People’s street is divided into 10 urban sculpture creation themes, which are revitalization and prosperity of old industrial base, history and culture, commerce, prosperous markets, education of science and technology , etc. The route of Jingyang Road - Jiefang Road - Jilin Road route is divided to 5 urban sculpture creation themes. There are all together 24 positions planned for urban sculpture construction , including 15 positions in People’s street, 5 in Jingyang Road-Jiefang Road-Jilin Road, 1 in Saide Square, 2 in Weixing Road, and 1 in Shengtai Square. Artists are required to make sculpture proposals according to the surrounding environment and theme requirements for this position.
The proposed works should be beautiful shapes and high artistic values, and meet the special needs of public art, according to the criteria of reliability, safety and permanence.
This symposium adopts a method of selection in special and public invitation solicitation together, seeking the internationally acclaimed art institutions, schools and universities, and individual sculptors.
The number of works is expected to be 40 (adjustable based on the quality of the work). The sculptors can apply for different themes. The sculptures are encouraged groups.
Evaluation: A jury of well-known sculptors and artists will evaluate all proposals sculptures. The final results will be published on the Office of Planning and Management of Urban Sculpture site (http://www.ccwsp.com/). The organizing committee will send the invitation letter to the author with the exhibition contract, which sets out the responsibilities, rights and duties of both. The selected sculptors will have to send back the signed contract and a maquette of about 50 cm in size to the organizing committee.
The selected sculptors will be equipped with:
1. An allowance of RMB 60,000 (the bonus includes the cost of production of the sculpture sample finalized).
2. Certificate of Honor issued by the Changchun government.
3. round-trip economy class airfare, room and board, assistant and interpreter.
