Stone sculpture symposium of Comiso Falda Leonardo

The stone sculpture symposium of Comiso Falda Leonardo is organized by Dr. Giuseppe Nicoletti “In memory of Adelina and Santo Nicoletti” and will take place in Villarosa, a town in the province of Enna (Sicily), on May 1-21, 2022.

From Saturday 1st May until Saturday 21st May 2022, the works will take place by the artists participating in the symposium, with local stone processing provided by the Pietra di Comiso Biancaura quarry, of the Virduzzo brothers..

From 03 May 2022, visitors will be able to admire the artists at work, get to know them, find out about their activity and check their progress on a daily basis.

On May 4, 2022, it will be the day of the "Martellata day" (the Hammer day) in which visitors will be able to contribute to the realization of the works, contributing with rapid and impromptu interventions of chisel and hammer.

The artists will perform the works, for the entire period, from 08.30 to 13.00 and from 14.30 to 19.00, with a forecast of an hour break, both for lunch and dinner, at a typical room of the symposium residence. Sunday, May 22, 2022, at 11.00 am, the completed works will be presented to the public.

Theme of the symposium: "Figure and traditional Spanish costumes of the nineteenth century"

 

Regulation

The participating artists will be chosen by a jury appointed by the organizers.

The selection will be published shortly after March 30, 2022.

The jury's decision will be based on the evaluation of the artists' application dossiers.

At the end of the symposium, each artist will be given a certificate of participation signed by the president of the organization and the artistic director.

Sculptors will have to create a sculpture realistically adhering to the proposed theme, in the time available to them (22 days).

The material to be used is comiso biancaura calcarinite. Each artist will be provided with a block, with the following dimensions 250 x 80 x 80.

In the case of using different additional materials for the assembly of the sculptures, the costs will be borne by each sculptor.

Artists will have to bring their own cutting and polishing machinery, small electrical appliances and tools.

The sculptures made will become the property of the organizers, who will establish an appropriate location. The organizers hold the rights to exhibit these works in museums or temporary exhibitions. The artist will allow filming and other documentation of his work and the entire creative process

The following will be provided by the participating organization:

  • light, extensions, compressed air with relative connections and a 230 mm angle grinder, disc cover without tools, first aid kit, overnight stay, food and lodging.
  • Travel expenses (air ticket in economy class and transfer from / to the airport) and in any case no more than 300 €, will be reimbursed only to the artists.
  • Teach artist who has completed the work at the established time and place will be paid a total of 2500 € for the costs of equipment and author. (1000 € of the total amount will be paid in the first week of the symposium )
  • Inclusion in the eventual catalog, catalog of the Symposium;
  • Coverage of the most important events of the Symposium on the website and on the facebook page dedicated to it
  • Coverage of the events of the Symposium of the Italian mass media.

 

Participants should:

  • complete the sculpture in accordance with the selected projects;
  • offer a small sculpture for the exhibition at the Museum-gallery;
  • bring their own equipment, protections and discs for marble or granite;
  • have individual insurance for the entire period of the Symposium;
  • take part in the traditional painting competition;
  • be present in the workplace for the duration of the Symposium;

 

Sculptors can propose small works (30-50 cm) as an indoor composition together with the large sculpture.

HOW TO APPLY:
The registration dossiers must contain the following documentation:

  • Application form (to be requested from the email addresses below)
  • Curriculum (with photo) not exceeding a typed page, including the 5 most important events in which the artist participated;
  • Documentation in jpeg format of 5 previous works of the artist;
  • Sketches, sketches or photographs of the model of the work proposed for the work proposed for the  symposium, which shows different points of view, the assembly drawing, without neglecting the quantity and type of any additional material needed;
  • A brief explanation of the proposed works of art
  • E-mail address. Telephone number for probable communications and possible website
