MARBLE FESTIVAL – FRANCE
The Marble and Arts association is organizing the 22nd Sculpture Symposium as part of the sculpture and Saint Béat marble Festival. The selected sculptors will participate in the 22nd sculpture symposium and will create an original marble outdoor workart in open court.

SELECTION
Each sculptor will propose 1 project as a drawing, sketch, or photo. Models will not be reshipped. The selection jury will be made up of the association president and one or more of its members, a representative of the Saint-Béat-Lez town council, a representative of the Community of Communes , and a representative of the profession.
MATERIAL – SIZE
The selected sculptor will receive a block of marble, roughly shaped, with a sawn base. The size of the block will be adapted to the operating time. He will have to adapt his project to the dimensions and shapes of the block and accommodate the natural defects of the marble: colors, hardness, microcracks etc... He will have to indicate the position and orientation of the block for the setup. No handling will be possible during the symposium. No other material may be added to the sculpture.
COMPENSATION
Each selected sculptor will receive an indemnity at the end of the Symposium.
- For 10 working days, compensation is set at €2,000. Travel costs are included.
- For 7 working days, compensation is set at €1,400. Travel costs are included.
- For 5 working days, compensation is set at €1,000. Travel costs are included.
No other compensation may be requested. The finished artwork will become the property of the Marbre et Arts association.
The selected sculptor must provide an invoice to “Association Marbre et Arts”, and bank details.
DATES – TIMES
The selected sculptor must be present on the site every day:
from Saturday 9 to Monday 18 July, and his sculpture must be finished by July 18 at 6 p.m.
or from Wednesday 20 to Friday 29 July, and his sculpture must be finished by July 29 at 6 p.m.
or from Saturday 9 to Friday 15 July, and his sculpture must be finished by July 15 at 6 p.m.
Where from Saturday 9 to Wednesday 13 July, and his sculpture must be finished by July 13 at 6 p.m.
Dates given by the organizers cannot be modified. Working hours are fixed from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.
PLACE AND LOGISTICS
The symposium takes place on Place Gallieni in the village of Saint-Béat-Lez. Each workplace is equipped with a tent, safety barriers, a 220V power supply, and compressed air.
The selected sculptor must have his own sculpting and finishing tools and care for their maintenance.
The selected sculptor must take care to keep his workplace clean and secure.
MEDIATION
The sculpture symposium takes place in open court. Every time it’s possible, the selected sculptor will try to communicate about his work with the visitors. When the project is finished, the sculptor agrees to explain it to the public and partners. He will be able to talk about his experience, his artistic approach, and explain his sculpture in such a way as to make it accessible to all.
RESPONSABILITY
Each selected sculptor works under his own responsibility and ensures the safety of those around him. The organizers assume no responsibility for accidents, injuries, theft or other damage. The selected sculptor must have personal health/accident insurance at their expense. The selected sculptor must have professional civil liability insurance at his expense. This insurance covers the risk of damage caused to others.
For the selected sculptor who did not supply a certificate of civil liability, the association will take out insurance for the operating time. The cost of the insurance is 60€ and will be deducted from the sculptor’s remuneration.
REGULATIONS RELATED TO THE HEALTH CRISIS
Because of the health crisis, the association can cancel the event for force majeure without financial compensation for the selected sculptor. The sculptor undertakes to comply with the obligations and recommendations related to the health crisis and must have the supporting documents that may be required by the government to travel, work in public and enter in public establishments, including the festival entertainment places, accommodation and partner restaurants.
ACCOMMODATION– FOOD
Accommodation, meals, and breakfasts, only for the selected sculptors, will be provided by the association for the period of the operating time.
GUARANTEE DEPOSIT
A deposit check of €400 (four hundred euros) made out to “Association Marbre et Arts” will be requested from the selected artist. The selected sculptor must send the deposit check to: Association Marbre et Arts Mairie de Saint-Béat Lez Rue Galliéni 31440 Saint-Béat Lez - FRANCE
The deposit check will be returned after participation in the symposium. However, if the chosen sculptor does not participate, and if the selected sculptor could not realize his work because of failure, because of absenteeism, or other reasons, except in case of force majeure, the agreement will be considered as broken, which means the deposit cheque will be cashed, the contract canceled, and the accommodation and food services paid by the sculptor. The selected foreign sculptors will have to send a photocopy of their plane tickets.
IMAGE RIGHTS
The artists' signed agreement gives the organizers the possibility to post photos, texts, videos of the work, for information or publicity (social networks) for non-commercial purposes. The exploitation rights remain the property of the author, according to the law on literary and artistic property.
MEMBERSHIP
The sculptor can become a member of “Association Marbre et Arts”.
The amount of the annual membership fee is €20.
HOW TO APPLY:
Documents required :
1 - Sketch or photo of the project.
2 - Technical sheet explaining the project.
3 - Recent photo of the artist, documents and CV.
4 - Regulations initialed and signed on each page (file to be required to coralie.quincey@hotmail.fr)
5 - Civil Liability Certificate.
6 - Siret n° or Artists-Authors account n° and any document proving the professionalism of the artist. Photos must be sent in JPG format and their size will be approximately 1200 pixels.
All other elements of the application file must be sent in pdf format and grouped together if possible in a single PDF file. Incomplete applications or presenting several projects will not be accepted.

The result will be sent by email no later than April 30, 2022. This email will inform the sculptor of the operating dates and of the characteristics of the marble block assigned to him (color and dimensions).
