About the Show
Dates of the show: Set up 5th October 2018; Exhibition 6-14 Oct, Take-down 15th October.
Degrees of Freedom invite artists to be interpreters of spaces, makers of meaning for an exhibition at St Augustine tower in Hackney in October 2018. We are open to many different ideas of space, for example: Actual physical places and environments (built or natural); Intellectual, moral or poetic spaces for reflection and imagination; Spaces for acting out one’s relationship with the world. Submissions may relate to St Augustine Tower itself or any other space or concept of space that is close to your heart and which you wish to interpret to the world.
Mediums
All mediums are welcome. We particularly encourage participative, interactive and live works. Participation can be for any duration: from a few hours to the full course of the exhibition. It could be periodic or continuous. The idea is to keep the space dynamic.
Responsibilities of participating artist
The show is being organised in the spirit of DiY which means that participants must bring their own materials & equipment, develop their own collaborations and projects, clear up after themselves, co-operate with others sharing the space, and help promote the show within and outside their networks. Artists will be required to be present at the Tower for at least half a day during the course of the exhibition.
Audience building and publicising the show: We do not guarantee an audience for any artist or any work. If an audience is important, you must take responsibility for bringing in your own audience.
Financial contribution
There is no application or participating fee.
Non commercial
This is a non commercial opportunity. No prices will be displayed with the works or in any part of the programme.
