Tate: Sculpture & Installation Technician

The Sculpture and Installation Art conservation team is looking for an enthusiastic person to join their team as a conservation technician, supporting the senior conservation technician.

This 6 month contract will provide support for the casing and packing of new acquisitions, ensuring that art works are packed to Tate’s high standards.

The post will also provide technical support for our exciting exhibitions and displays programme across the 4 sites and will support our collections care initiatives.

The Sculpture and Installation Art Team are one of five teams within the Conservation department at Tate which is part of the wider Collection Care Division, alongside Library and Archives and Collection Management. The Division works across all Tate sites; Tate Liverpool, Tate St Ives and our central London sites (Tate Britain, Tate Modern and Tate Stores).This role will work across Tate sites as well as have the training and opportunity to work across the UK and internationally enabling the sharing of Tate’s Collection.

The post requires a range of knowledge of materials such as metals, stone, textiles, organics, modern materials, plastics, foodstuffs, ceramic, glass, mechanisms and moving parts, preventive conservation and packing of artworks.

We are looking for someone who holds a recognised qualification in conservation or has equivalent relevant training and/or experience. You will be able to work under supervision and independently on the preparation, packing, and creation of packing instructions for artworks, and on preventive conservation tasks. You will work with a range of people across Tate, therefore, your communication skills will be key.

This position is offered on a fixed-term contract until 31 March 2019.
