ARCTIC ART WEEK 2019 - Symposium

In occasion of the Arctic Arts Week, that will be held from 7th to 13th August 2019, Kakslauttanen Arctic Resort is the organizer of the 16th International Sculpture Symposium in Finland.
Theme:  “Astronomical Phenomena in the Northern Sky” such as for example Lunar Eclipse, Aurora Borealis, Planets, Constellations or Midnight Sun.

Materials

Very old pine wood , log diameter 35-50 cm, lenght 200-400 cm, can be used more than one, also timber wood , steel plates and bars

Travel

The organizer pays travel cost ; 500 euro from Europe , 800 euro from Asia and overseas countries, nearest airport is Ivalo airport (transfer bus to Kakslauttanen takes about 45 min). It is also possible to fly/travel by train to Rovaniemi and catch a bus from there to Kakslauttanen (3,5 hours drive). Persons accompanying the artist must pay their own travel costs.

Living

The Organization will provide accommodation ( log houses ) and meals : breakfast , soup lunch , dinner . Accompaining persons (she/he) must pay their own living , 70 €/day accomondation, breakfast , lunch , dinner

Tools

Artist should bring their own tools. The organization can provide some chain saws and small grinders and welding machine. Also technical and lifting help and electric power (220 V) are available.

Works

Artist must complete the sculpture during the symposium. Symposium will take place whatever weather will be . Workplace is covered .

Insurance

Artist must have own personal insurance for working in the symposium .

To apply for the selection the artists can create their own application form, by sending the following information::

• Drawing , sketch , photo of the model of the proposed sculpture
• 3-4 photo in jpg format of previous works , web page/site of your works
• Short CV

Sculpture made during the symposium will become property of Kakslauttanen Arctic Resort and will be installed in the area of the Kakslauttanen Arctic Resort.
The symposium includes an excursion to the nature or museum.
The participant can take extra holiday before or after the symposium at low price. Ask to the organization Hotel Kakslauttanen.
