26th International Değirmendere Zühtü Müridoğlu Wooden Sculpture Symposium

The 26th International Değirmendere Zühtü Müridoğlu Wooden Sculpture Symposium will be held between the dates 17 July to 2 August 2019 as a part of '2023 Gölcük Vision' under the cooperation of the Gölcük Municipality and Sculpture Department at Kocaeli University Faculty of Fine Arts.

The artists who participate in the symposium are expected to produce site specific sculptures for Değirmendere, of which relations with the environment have been examined in advance.

Material and Tools

Material is wood.

  • Municipality of Gölcük is going to give average 30 cm and 200 cm long two pieces wooden block to the every artist. Also, the montage of the works, its foot and the required equipments are going to be supplied by Municipality of Gölcük provided that they are indicated in the application file. (While choosing the equipments, artist must take into consideration that the work is going to be exhibited outside.)
  • Municipality of Gölcük will supply 200 volt electricity and extension cord system, set the working tables, plan the required equipments in the symposium area and supply technical support during the wood-working.
  • The artists should bring along their own cutting and polishing machine, small electrical equipment and tools, and the related expenditure materials.
  • KOU Faculty of Fine Arts sculpture department will commission three assistants to help artists.
  • Municipality of Gölcük is going to apportion a worker continuously in order to get
  • across in the area during the symposium working hours.
  • Municipality of Gölcük is going to make provision for any work accident to every artist during the symposium. But every artist must be made its own private medical insurance. In that case, If it any occur accidents to the artists. The artists are responsible for own.
  • Municipality of Gölcük is going to provide security guard to police for 24 hours in the symposium area.

 

Honorarium

Municipality of Gölcük is liable for paying 5,000 Turkish Liras to every artist who performed his work in the determined time period and place according to the working rules.
The determined amount is going to be paid at the end of the symposium with the certificate of attendance.

The symposium artists will be selected upon the evaluations to be performed by the selection committee, among the artists of sculpture who applied with projects and personal files suggested for the symposium.

Property

The artists are going to give their works that they performed during the symposium to Municipality of Gölcük. These works are going to be located to places by Municipality of Gölcük under the supervision of artists.

Responsibility

Municipality of Gölcük is going to be responsible for these works and is not going to sell and not going to donate these works by no reason. Municipality of Gölcük and Kocaeli University Faculty of Fine Arts has the right of taking their photography and slide in order to make a book or a catalogue; shooting their film in order to use them during making a general advertising film and introducing them via sending them to media.
 

Transportation

Economy class plane tickets, transfer from the airport, accommodation and nutrition expenses are going to be paid by Municipality of Gölcük.

The Symposium Calendar

30 June 2019 – Symposium application deadline.

  • 01 July 2019 – The announcement of results by e-mail to the applicants.
  • 07 July 2019 - Deadline for sending in preferred date of travel. Participating artists must provide their preferred dates of travel.
  • 15 July 2019 - Arrival of artists, and transfer to accomodation.
  • 16 July 2019- Choice of wood and visit the places
  • 17 July 2019 at 10:00 - Opening ceremony.The beginning of the symposium.
  • 31 July 2019 - Finishing of the Works
  • August 2019 - Placing of the location specified of the works
  • 02 August 2019 at 19:00 -Closing ceremony. The delivery of the certificates ofparticipation, payment of the copyright sums.
  • 03 August 2019 - Departure from Kocaeli.

 

The artists who have applied to participate in this symposium have consented to act on the above principles and regulations.

Application

The application portfolios, which will be the base of choice for the jury regarding the participating artists, must contain the following:
a) Artist’s curriculum vitae that will not exceed A4
b) Artist’s photography
c) Visual documentation of the artist’s 5 previous works in jpeg format
d) The sketches, model or the photograph of the model of the proposed artwork for the symposium, showing different angles, explanation report (please explanation of the proposed artwork relations with the environment), the mounting sketch, an explanation approximately amount of wood and type of additional material to be used in the proposed artwork.
e) The height of the work of art proposed for the symposium must not exceed 160 cm.
f) E-mail address for communication.

The application portfolio, not exceeding 1.5 MB in total, including all of the documents listed above, must be sent to the following address before 30th June 2019 via email:

The documents in the portfolios may be used in press releases, the symposium catalog which will be published at a later date, and similar publications.
