37th SNOW SCULPTURE CONTEST in Valloire

The Tourist Office of Valloire organizes its 37th SNOW SCULPTURE CONTEST, from 21 to 24 January, 2020. It will take place at Verneys, on a platform at 1500 m of altitude.
Participants should arrive at Valloire for Monday, January 20, 2020 in the afternoon.
The contest begins Tuesday, 21st January at 8:00 am and ends Friday, 24th January to 12 h.
The 20/01: assignment of working locations at the end of the opening meal.
The 24/01: At 12:00: Passage Jury.
At 17:30: award ceremony.

Registration for the competition is free. It is recommended that each participant to have insurance. The contest is open to 8 teams of artists (3 persons including at least 1 professional sculptor)

The competition is artistic. The theme is free.
Artists (French and foreign) will be selected for the contest over 18 years old.

SNOW: Each team will have at its disposal a snow cube of 3,5m x 3,5m x 4m high. The sculptors will make maximum use of the volume of snow at their disposal, without limitation in height. The sculpture will be carved on each side.
MATERIALS: The sculpture must be carried out entirely with snow, ice, water. The contribution of other materials is not allowed.
TOOLS: The organizers will make available to each team: 1 shovel, 1 scale.
The use of electric saws will be possible; One chainsaw per team will be provided by the organization . Other tools (knives, scissors, saws, ax, chisel ...) must be brought by competitors, which may also provide their own chainsaw if electrical.
The competition will take place whatever the weather.

ACCOMMODATION: Accommodation sculptors (not leaders) is offered by the Tourist Office in hotel from Monday, January 20 in the evening to Saturday, January 25 in the morning. Personal expenses (telephone, drinks, ...) remain the responsibility of the competitors.

JURY: Jury selection consisting of organizers, representatives of the resort, artists and sculptors, will determine the participants on sketches and explanations received with the form Registration. The choice of the jury will be final.

RESULTS: The announcement of the results will be Friday, January 24, 2020 at 17 h.

PRIZES:

  • NATIONAL CONTEST with 1 NATIONAL PRIZE to the 3 first teams. A trophy will be given to them.
  • INTERNATIONAL CONTEST with 1 INTERNATIONAL PRIZE to the 3 first teams. A trophy will be given to them.
  • Only French teams will participate to the national contest.
  • The French winner team of 2019 (RABUSSEAU / MESNIER / SAINT GERAND) will compete for the international prize of 2020 and will represent France in the different international contests of the other countries. They will also be invited as Honourable Guest at the contest in Saguenay  in QuĂ©bec (respecting the welcome rules of the event – accommodation and food are different from Valloire).
  • PUBLIC PRIZE and 1 YOUTH PRIZE will be given, the last day of the contest, by vote at the Tourism Office.
  • ARTISTS PRIZE will be given. The competitors will vote for the team or the sculpture they prefer.

MONEY : In the wish to contribute to the expenses incumbered by the sculptors, the amount of 450 € will be given to each participant + An amount of 450 € for travel of the international sculptors, on ticket’s presentation, whatever the amount, except these countries : Great Britain, Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, Austria, Netherlands, Switzerland, Italy, Spain and Portugal. A trip indemnity of 120 € / pers. will be given to the other sculptors.

Selection will be made during the first week of November 2019. The sculptors will be informed immediately.
