8th Symposium of monumental sculpture “Le Monumental Mirecurtiennes”

La Association Sculpture et Cie.Org e la Communauté de Communes Mirecourt Dompaire the 8th symposium of monumental sculpture “Le Monumental Mirecurtiennes”. Sevetral artists will be selected to participate. The event will take place from 25th July to 2nd August 2019.

Material: wood or stone

Topic: For 2020 the topic is "travels".

Working hours are from 9.00 to 12.00 and from 14.00 to 18.00 each day on the site provided for this purpose. And from 18.00 to 19.30 only with electrical equipment; beyond this time, no heat machine will be allowed. For technical reasons sculptures will have to be finished by the evening of Friday 31st July; with possibility to work with tools on Saturday morning.

Welcome:
Selected sculptors will be welcomed in MIRECOURT on Saturday, July 25th at Cours Stanislas at 10 am and are required to be present until 18.00 on Sunday, August 2 (end of the symposium).
Insurance : Each sculptor will have to provide a valid insurance certificate of civil liability as well as any relevant document ensuring of his social protection.

Art Works Rights:
Artists keep the rights to their works. The right to record, film or photograph for commercial purposes during and after the Symposium is reserved to the sole organizer.
Art works through moral rights remain intellectual property of the sculptor (paternity of the work,
deformation or mutilation of the work are not possible). Sponsors and villages hosting the works have no right to use the sculptures for commercial purposes without prior consent of the artist. All the works will be made available to the “communauté de communes de Mirecourt-Dompaire” who will be the guarantor. The setting being partly dependent on the latter (realization of the bases and setting of the works), they will decide the place of setting, in agreement with the association Sculpture and Co. (organizer of the symposium).
No transformation, either of form or color, no use of cleaning product can be achieved without the written agreement of the sculptor.

Locations: Sculptures will have to be stable. The sculptors have be careful of the safety of people of the surrounding area.

Allowances:
The association will pay the sum of 1.000 Euros to each sculptor provided that the sculpture is finished, presentable and in conformity with the project provided during the registration (the organization represented by the office of the association Sculpture et cie will be the only judge)
Method of payment : by cheque or bank transfer.

Travel expenses:
From 100 to 400 km = 100 Euros From 401 to 1200 km = 200 Euros Over 1200 km = 400 Euros Artists will be required to provide proof of their travel expenses. The travel expenses of any accompanying person will not be covered.

Accommodation:
Sculptors will stay with the local inhabitants , they will be put up from Saturday, July 25 noon to Monday, August 3 in the morning.
Accommodation costs for any accompanying person will not be covered. Personal expenses such as telephone expenses or others are in charge of the participant.

Meals:
All meals will be served on the site of the event. Meal expenses of any accompanying person will not be paid. For those wishing to eat, enquire at “sculpture et cie” association for rates and reservations.

Exhibition: An artistic exhibition will possibly be organized, the invited sculptors can exhibit their works. The organization will charge a 10% commission on the price of the works sold. For more information, please contact the “sculpture et cie” association.

Tools:
Tools have to be brought by the selected artists. At night all tools will be safely stored in a locked workshop. You will find a compressor with an express connection on site (see photo opposite). You will also find tool shops in Mirecourt if necessary.

Materials:

  • wood : Oak log 4 meters high on about 0.60m to 0.90 diameter is provided free by the organization. The organization will supply SP95, mixing oil and chain oil.
  • The finished sculpture has to be : minimum 4m or maximum 5m (standing) Each sculptor must provide protections, safety equipment suitable for woodwork.
  • stone: Grés des Vosges about 2m x 0.50 x 0.50 A compressor will be at the disposal of all 5 sculptors. Stone sculptors will necessarily be provided with appropriate mask and protection. The association will also provide an express connection at the foot of the sculpture and the sculptor will be responsible for the connection of its equipment to this connection.

 

The association of color or other materials is allowed but these will not be provided by the organization. It is up to each artist to bring the necessary materials for making his sculpture.
Preview : Three prizes will be awarded on Saturday, August 1 during the symposium previewing. The Artist prize, the Children prize and the Public prize are three honorary prizes.

HOW TO APPLY:

Registration is free, each sculptor must provide by post before January 10, 2020:

  • a biography
  • an identity photograph of the sculptor
  • the registration form duly completed
  • a sketch of the project (4 sided drawing) A4 size or model (that will not be returned)
  • explanations of the project
