The 12th International Obernkirchen Sculptor Symposium

The 12th  International Obernkirchen Sculptor Symposium is organized by the non-profit "Kulturfenster Obernkirchen e.V." association. I twill take place from 29th August to 12th September 2021 in Obernkirchen, Germany.
Purpose of the association is the promotion of art and culture and the deepening of the art interest within the population.

Travel expense, Food and Accommodation
The artists will arrive on August 29th and leaving again on September. Travel expenses - economy class - will be refunded by the organizer, "Kulturfenster Obernkirchen e.V.". The participating artists are offered free accommodation as well as free meals. The evenings are free. To promote meetings of artists and visitors, the Organizer will arrange meetings, guided tours and events.


Material
The organizer provides the participants with about 1 m3 of Obernkirchen Sandtsein. It should be noted that the Obernkirchen sandstone is very hard. A visit to the quarry during the symposium will be part of the artists programme.


Working time
It should be noted that the sculptures/objects must be carried out by the participants of the symposium themselves and on site within the prescribed time frame. The participating artists must bring their own appropriate tools. Compressed air and electricity is provided. Grinding will be allowed in the period from 7 - 9 am. The participants must be present during the Symposium on the weekdays from 9 am - 6 pm, as well as at the opening and closing ceremony.


Honorarium
The fee is 1.000 €. For proper taxation with sales and income tax, all artists have to take care of themselves.
Accommodation, food and material costs will be provided by the organizer.


Property
The works created during the symposium remain the property of the artists. The participants agree to lend their work to the city of Obernkirchen for a period of two years, unless it is sold in advance or urgently needed for an exhibition, etc. The installation and care is within these two years of Obernkirchen. In case of loss or damage of the submitted works, the organizer is liable only if a fault is proven. In the case of sale as well as pickup by the artist the transport costs will be carried by the artists themselves.

 

Exhibition and sale

Parallel to the symposium a sales exhibition will be arranged in the ballroom of the adjacent Obernkirchen Abbey. Here the participating artists have the opportunity to present and sell smaller works.
If the artists sell a sculpture created during the symposium or a work of the accompanying art exhibition, the organizer will receive 20% of the sale price.

The organizers take over media and press work.

Catalog

A catalog will be published about the symposium. In this matter the participants must provide the organizer with  biographical data as  well as explanatory text.


Application:

Documents to be submitted:

  • 1 A4 sheet with biography, name and address, up to 5 A4 sheets with illustrations of up to 5 reference objects.  (Per object 1 sheet), per object also an explanatory sheet in A4 format with details on year of execution, location,  material and size.
  • Attention: no digital material and no web links.


 The participants will be invited until the end of January 2021.
