The International Garden Festival - Hortillonnages Amiens

The International Garden Festival - Hortillonnages Amiens offers the public landscape creations and works of art accessible, on foot or by boat, on the islets of Hortillonnages in Amiens and along the Somme. Scattered around this exceptional site, these interventions take an offbeat or poetic, funny or critical but always unprecedented look at this complex environment, its history and future, and the link between nature and culture. Created in 2010 by the Maison de la Culture d'Amiens, this garden festival, long called Art, cities & landscapes, has been - for two years - supported by the association Art & jardins I Hauts-deFrance: it is now integrated in a larger garden project that extends to the whole region. The website www.artetjardins-hdf.com allows you to discover the projects in progress. This 12th edition of the International Garden Festival will take place from May 22 to October 17, 2021. Landscapers, architects, visual artists and designers are invited to respond to this call for projects to create works in situ in the Hortillonnages of Amiens. A description of the Hortillonnages site on which the works will be presented can be found in the appendix. This project revolves around several objectives:

  • support young creation
  • questioning the nourishing function of Hortillonnages
  • promoting a natural environmental heritage in danger
  • develop a cultural project for all by going out to meet new audiences
  • promote the professional integration of young people and groups in difficulty
  • participate in the solidarity economy
  • develop the tourist attraction of the site.

This call for projects is addressed to:

  • landscapers, architects, visual artists, designers, graduates and under the age of 45 (born after December 31, 1974)

  • designers who have created a garden or a plastic installation in the last five editions of the Festival
  • the people participating in the jury

  • Taking into account ecological and environmental issues by the candidate in an innovative way / 20% In general, for landscapers, the jury will be sensitive to innovative experiments that promote registers hybrid interventions.

The works of landscape must take into account the fragility of the site: works raising awareness or questioning the preservation of Hortillonnages as well as those linked to the preservation and repair of the banks will be particularly appreciated. As the history of Hortillonnages is closely linked to market gardening, one of the landscape works chosen will be linked to this theme and will involve a redistribution of harvests to charitable associations.
