12th International Symposium of Sculpture in Wood

The Tourist Association Valle Aurina/Ahrntal is organizing the the 12th International Symposium of Sculpture in Wood from 5 to 11 July , 2021 in cooperation with the crib and popular art museum „Maranatha“ in Lutago/Luttach.

Participants
Sculptors from all over the world have the possibility to join the symposium. On the basis of good skills and high profile sculptors can be chosen for participating without an application by the organizing committee and the jury of experts directly.

Terms and conditions
The participants must be sculptors.

Mid of April: Selection of the participants (maximum 10 sculptors) through organizing committee and jury of experts with certificate of participation or refusal

Competition theme
The theme of the competition is “Mannequins - models”. The sculptures will be placed in the new sculpture park in Lutago/Luttach after the symposium.

Eligibility criteria
The sketches will be evaluated according the following criteria:
1. Completeness of the application documents
2. Idea and originality in realization of the given theme
3. Realizability
4. Tecnical effort
5. Overall impression
6. Utilization of the offered material

Sculptures
Each sculptor will receive a rough bole from a larch (green set) with max. 2,20 m length and 0,60 m diameter as a whole bole or divided in half. The wood could be delivering also in pieces. The object has to be created at minimun by 50 % from the available wood. A second material could be used (purchase and costs are for the account to the sculptor).

Equipment
The following auxiliary means will be offered to the participants:
1. Protection from rain and sun (tent)
2. Current supply (220 Volt)
Other tools have to be brought by the sculptors. It is allowed to use tools with combustion engine, while pneumatic chisels are not allowed.

Exhibition facilities
The attendees get the opportunity to exhibit up to three objects brought by them in an own exhibition during the symposium

Working hours
Daily from 9.00 to 18.30

Benefits by the organizer
1. Every participant gets a contribution towards costs of 750,00 € (net amount)
2. Free food and accommodation (except extra costs like Bar, Telefon and so on)

Evaluation
A local jury together with the participating artists assign the most commendable sculpture. Also local residents and holiday visitors have the opportunity to cast a separate vote.

Sculptural works | usage of the objects
The sculptural works will be presented in the evening of the last working day. The sculptures belong to the organizer.
Communication | language
The organizing committee communicates in German, Italian and English.

HOW TO APPLY:

Artists have to give to the organizer the following documents for the registration:

• Registration form completely filled in and signed (to require to the email address below)
• Sketch, photo of a model and a short description about the planned object
• a short curriculum vitae
