GARE ART FESTIVAL – LUXEMBOURG

Despite Covid-19 pandemic A.I.E.S.M. and Groupe Animation Gare organize the 21st GARE-ART-FESTIVAL with the support of the City of Luxembourg, the CFL, the Ministry of Culture, the CSL and FOCUNA.
This event consists in the creation of sculptures and/or installations by six professional artists in the Gare (train station) district of Luxembourg-City, followed by the exhibition of the created artworks in the Central Train Station.
The symposium lasts one week and the exhibition is open to the public from August 07th to September 23rd, 2021.
Three or four international artists are invited to submit an application, two or three Luxembourg artists are directly invited.
The Gare Art Festival enjoys a high media and public visibility and has also been honoured for several years by the presence at the official opening of the ambassadors of the countries from which the artists come, as well as the Luxembourg cultural authorities and other distinguished guests.

The specifics of the 2021 symposium:

Thematic: circular economy.

The works to be created are made from salvage materials based on the concept of circular economy, i.e. the works are assembled in such a way that the raw materials can be recovered later. As a result, welding assemblies are excluded.

Works dimensions: maximum height: 2,00 m. Maximum area: 2,25m².

Example: 1,50m x 1,50m or 1,00 x 2,25m or equivalent.

Place of creation: Place de la Gare in Luxembourg City. Outdoors, under tents, in a reserved and protected area.

Creation period: Friday, July 30th to Friday, August 6th 2021 included.

Exhibition period: Saturday, August 7th to Thursday, September 23rd, 2021 included.

Artists bring their tools to make their artwork.

The materials necessary for the creation of their artworks by the artists are provided by the organizer, on the basis of a detailed list that each candidate will have provided. The budget for that is 300 €/artist and is not to be exceeded. Any excess of this budget is at the expense of the artist.

Accommodation and meals of selected/invited artists are taken care of by the organizer for the duration of the symposium. Accommodation concerns only international artists.

Cachet of 1,000.00 € per artist, who owns his/her artwork for one year until the next edition of the GAF.

The artist is free to sell his/her creation within this time interval and after this period, to donate it to the organizer.

Compensation for trip costs: 50 € for Luxembourg artists, 150 € for international artists.

Deadline for sending projects (only one project per artist): Friday, April 30th, 2021, 24:00.
