Call for professional sculptors - IN SITU

As part of Sculptures - IN SITU (a residence of artists-sculptors on granite) organized at the Parc-Musée de St-Michel de Montjoie from Sunday June 5 to Friday June 17, 2022, the Mont Saint-Michel-Normandie Agglomeration Community launches a call for projects addressed to professional sculptors. This event is organized with the support of the Châtel quarries and the association of friends of granite.

Cadre de Sculptures - IN SITU
The residence is addressed to professional sculptors on granite and is organized at the Parcmusée du granit de St-Michel de Montjoie from June 5 to 17, 2022, it will welcome 3 sculptors. The theme for the 2022 edition is "orchard, shellfish and bovids" The choice of this theme is made in connection with the territorial food project. The territorial food project of the Mont-Saint-Michel Normandie agglomeration community aims to federate and bring together the various food players in the south Manche, from farmers to consumers via intermediaries to improve access to a diversified local food respectful of the environment accessible to all but above all of good taste and nutritional quality. Note that a simple realization will be avoided and that the sculpture will also refer to the identity of the territory with a complexity of realization this project will be sensitive poetic and stylized.

Honorarium
The remuneration of the artist is set in a global and lump sum at € 2,000. Artists are welcomed in residence from Saturday June 4, 2022 at 5 p.m. They are hosted free of charge from June 4 to 18, 2022. A flat rate of € 210 is also allocated for catering. Travel costs are the responsibility of the sculptor as well as his consumables.

Work
A block of granite "Bleu de Vire" is made available to the artists for the realization of their piece. The dimensions of the chosen block determine those of the room. The artists will have to bring their personal material. An electricity point (collective compressor) as well as a water point will be made available to the artists. The monumental granite sculpture must be durable in order to be installed outdoors in public space. The works must be finished at the end of the event. The artists are present for the duration of the event even if they have completed the work before the closing date. The artist can then assist the other sculptors. Each sculptor works at his own risk, and must have a personal insurance for the activity during the time of the residency. The organizer declines all responsibility for damage suffered by the works during the duration of the event and beyond. Likewise, the artist undertakes to wear the personal protective equipment (PPE). Throughout the duration of the event, the artist will be available to exchange with the public (school and general public) and will thus contribute to the animation of the event and to the discovery of his/her work.

Program

  • The start of the work is scheduled for Sunday, June 5, 2022, the presence of artists is imperative.
  • The site is open to the public from wednesday to sunday for the duration of the event from 10 am to 6:00 pm.
  • The event takes place over 13 days, the schedule is as follows: D1: Press point, D1 to D12: Making of the sculptures, D13: Finishing and installation of the sculptures. Closing opening and presentation of the works on June 17 at 6.30 p.m.

 

Communication For the communication of the event, each artist sculptor will provide a CV and a presentation of his project. The artists authorizes the organizer to use their image to promote their work during the duration of the event, but also to communicate on the work produced. In return, the community undertakes to install and permanently exhibit the sculpture produced. The name of the artist, the title of the work and the date of execution will appear on a plaque near the work.

  • the settlement of the residence dated and signed
  • the certificate of civil liability insurance and any document relating to the protection of the artist,
  • the certificate of registration at the Maison des Artistes or equivalent depending on the country of residence (or practice) of the artist-author,
  • the situation report in the SIRENE directory,
  • the application file including the files to complete

Only complete files received by post or in computer format accompanied by visuals (of good quality) before February 4, 2022, will be considered by the selection committee.

The selection committee is sovereign in its decisions.

  • Launch of the call for projects in december
  • Deadline for submitting applications on february 4, 2022
  • The study of files by the jury and the selection of candidates will take place between February 7 and 11 2022
  • The answers will be communicated from february 14, 2022

• Artists work in specially designed spaces with their personal tools, they must ensure the maintenance
• A compressor is available on site
