The Taoyuan International Art Award

The Taoyuan International Art Award aims to cultivate talent in contemporary art and create a strong foundation for the research and creation of contemporary art, as well as to expand global perspectives, strengthen international exchanges, and encourage the diversified development of art practices.

HOW TO APPLY:
Entries
1. Submitted entries are not limited in material, category, or size. The space for an individual exhibit is in principle no larger than 600x220x210cm. Taoyuan Museum of Fine Arts (TMoFA) will provide the finalized dimensions upon the announcement of the selected artists.
2. Entries must be a new work that has yet been exhibited, and must not have been recognized by any award domestically or internationally.
Registration
Online Registration
(1) Go to the website of the Taoyuan International Art Award (http://en.tmofa-tiaa.com/ ) to fill out the registration form and upload the entry work and exhibit plan. Submissions with incomplete information will not be accepted.
(2) Entry work and exhibit plan: The entry may be presented with texts, images, or videos. The content must include: photographs or schematics of the work, an artist statement, the work dimensions, the exhibit space planning, the equipment requirements, technical requirements, and the timetable for build-up and breakdown (an additional performance schedule is required for entries with performance).
(3) Specifications of entry:

  • 2D work: painting/mixed media/photography One full image of the work (juxtaposed shots for a series of work) and 2-4 partial images. Use the title of the entry as the file name.
  • 3D work: sculpture/3D object/installation/pluridisciplinary works One full image of the work and 2-4 partial images (including the top view, front view, and side view). Use the title of the entry as the file name.
  • New media: (a) interactive installation: i. one demo video of the effect (3 minutes or less) or one full image of the entry; ii. one condensed video (3 minutes or less); and iii. one static image. (b) audio/moving image/animation: i. one complete version of the entry; ii. one condensed video (3 minutes or less); and iii. three static images (audio entries are exempt).
  • Performance art: one video of the complete performance art work, one performance schedule plan, one condensed video (3 minutes or less), and three static images.

(4) Entry format and points to note: a. Image files must be in jpeg format; video files must be submitted as a YouTube or Vimeo link; and b. The name of artist cannot appear in any videos.

 

On-site Exhibition
(1) Participants selected in the preliminary review should build up and break down their exhibits during the designated time at the designated space. The exhibition space will be coordinated and allocated by TMoFA. Failure to build up the exhibit 3 in time will lead to disqualification.
(2) Participants will comply with the relevant regulations of the venue. Participants must restore the venue or to cover the restoration fee thereof in the event of any stains or damage to the venue by the aforesaid participants.
(3) TMoFA will cover the expenses of basic build-up, return transportation, and insurance of exhibited works as well as the transportation of the participating artists selected by the jury after the preliminary review:

  • Basic build-up: The woodwork, paintwork, and electricity, upon verification by TMoFA and the participant in terms of the actual requirements, will be conducted by the partner suppliers of TMoFA with NT$70,000 as the ceiling for the expenses thereof.
  • Fee(s) for return transportation of exhibited works: The Sponsor is to cover the fees for the return transportation of exhibited works.
  • Insurance premiums: The comprehensive insurance policy for artwork will be provided by TMoFA to the extent from the arrival of the designated venue to the return transportation of entry works.
  • Other relevant expenses: Expenses incurred from the materials for build-up and breakdown, equipment and tools, personnel, fees for the outbound transportation and insurance, cleaning, food and beverage, etc. shall be covered by the participants.
  • Transportation: A subsidy covering one round-trip ticket by THSR or TRA train (Tze-Chiang Limited Express) between Taoyuan and the city/county of an artist’s mailing address is available to artists residing in Taiwan. For foreign artists or those having lived abroad for over six months, the subsidy is up to an amount of NT$50,000 to cover the roundtrip ticket of coach (economy class) to and from Taoyuan from the same location on a reimbursement basis. Only one representative from a group is eligible for the transportation subsidy.

 

*The transportation fee will be reimbursed afterwards. Kindly keep your boarding pass and any other certificate of ticket issuance.

Rewards

  • Grand Prize *1: A prize of NT$600,000, one trophy, one award certificate, and five albums.
  • Honorable Mention *3: A prize of NT$200,000, one trophy, one award certificate, and five albums.
  • Sojourn Award *1: A subsidy of NT$250,000 for a tour abroad is offered to a Taiwanese participant, one trophy, one award certificate, and three albums. The awardee is obliged to complete his/her sojourn within 2 years after the end of the exhibition. After returning to Taiwan, the awardee shall present a written report (the electronic copy will be published online) and certificates of flight ticket issuance.
  • Selected Award: One award certificate and three albums.

 

*Taxes are included in the aforementioned amounts pursuant to the relevant regulations governing taxes in Taiwan.
