27th International Değirmendere Zühtü Müridoğlu Wooden Sculpture Symposium

The 27th International Değirmendere Zühtü Müridoğlu Wooden Sculpture Symposium will be held between the dates July 19 – August 6, 2022 as a part of '2023 Gölcük Vision', under the cooperation of the Gölcük Municipality and Sculpture Department at Kocaeli University Faculty of Fine Arts. Location The Symposium is going to be performed in “Değirmendere Çınarlık Meydanı” and the artists who participate in the symposium are expected to produce site specific sculptures for Değirmendere, of which relations with the environment that has been examined in advance.

The website http://gsf.kocaeli.edu.tr can be accessed through for the visual material of the places which have been designated for applications and information about the history of the Değirmendere. Elegibility 6 artists, consisting of three Turks and three foreigners artists, are going to attend to the symposium. Material Wood (chestnut or oak,the tree of the region) is selected as the material. Selection The symposium artists will be selected from the evaluations by the selection committee, among the artists whose sculpture is applied with a project and artist’s personal files suggested for the symposium. Honorarium According to the working ethic rules, only the artists who made their suggested works in the time and place will be given the following amounts: 15.000 TL(The participating artists from Turkey) 16.500 TL(To artists from Europe) 18.000 TL(To artists from outside Europe) will be paid as copyright. This amount will be paid at the end of the symposium along with the participation documents.

Press release

The documents in the portfolios may be used in press releases, and the symposium catalog which will be published at a later date, and in similar publications. Sculptures The artists are going to hand in their works that they sculpted during the symposium to Municipality of Gölcük. These works are going to be installed to selected places by Municipality of Gölcük under the supervision of artists. Municipality of Gölcük is going to be responsible for these works and is not going to sell and not going to donate these works. Municipality of Gölcük and Kocaeli University Faculty of Fine Arts has the right of taking their photography and slide in order to make a book or a catalogue; shooting the sculptures in order to use them during the making of a general advertising film and introducing them, via sharing them to media. Insurance Insurance of artists will not made by the Municipality of Gölcük .Every artist must made its own private medical insurance. If any accidents occur to the artists, the artists will be held responsible for their own insurance. Legal conditions If any artist can not finish their suggested work for the dates given for any reason, the decision will be given after the evaluation of the executive committee. In the occurance of a disagreement, Kocaeli Courts are authorized.

Working Conditions

Municipality of Gölcük is going to give average 30 cm and 200 cm long two pieces wooden block to the every artist. Also, the montage of the works, its bottom and the required equipments are going to be supplied by Municipality of Gölcük provided If they are indicated in the application file. (While choosing the equipments, artist must take into consideration that the work is going to be exhibited outside.)
Municipality of Gölcük is going to supply 200 volt electricity and extension cord system; to set the working tables, to plan the required equipments in the symposium area and is going to supply technical support during the wood-working part.
The artists should bring along their own cutting and polishing machines, small electrical equipment and tools, and the related disposable materials.
KOU Faculty of Fine Arts sculpture department will commission three assistants to help the artists.
Municipality of Gölcük is going to commision a continuous worker in order to establish communications in the area during the symposium working hour
Municipality of Gölcük is going to make precautions for any work accident to every artist during the symposium. But every artist must made their own private medical insurance. In that case, If it any occur accidents to the artists, The artists are responsible for own insurance.
Municipality of Gölcük is going to provide a security guard for 24 hours straight in the symposium area. 23 July 2022
Installing to the location specified for the works 24 July 2022 at 19:00 -Closing ceremony. The delivery of the certificates of participation, payment of the copyrights. 25 July 2022 - Departure from Kocaeli.
HOW TO APPLY:

Documents required: a) Artist’s CV that will not exceed a A4 paper. b) Artist’s photography c) Visual documentation of the artist’s 5 previous works in jpeg format. d) The sketches, model, the photograph of the model of the proposed artwork for the symposium, showing the model from different angles, explanation report (please explain artworks relations with the proposed environment), the assembly sketch, an prediction of the approximate amount of wood that’s required and the type of an additional material to be used in the proposed artwork. f)Documents containing the model of images or the patterns, explanation report, explanation about the size and technique, assembly scheme and necessary materials of the work proposed by the artist for the symposium should be sent to the e-mail address of the symposium@golcuk.bel.tr by 10 June 2022 at the latest.
