INTERNATIONAL SCULPTURE SYMPOSIUM - FRANCE

The Nomand'art association and the animation directorate of Mont-Dore organize an international sculpture symposium, which will take place on the Mont Dore in the Sancy massif, in Auvergne, during the festival SANCY.WHITE ART, from 5 to 9 February 2020.

The event will be improvisation: artists will be required to come without a specific project, only their experience as a sculptor and artist inspiration will be worth it. The rules of improvisation (subject, block size and more) will be communicated to the opening night. The event should be considered as a challenge based on the spirit of mutual aid and cooperation, not as a competition.

Selection

6 teams will be selected and will be notified by 13th December 2019, by email or post.
The symposium is open to sculptors from all over the world, regardless of discipline. The teams will be selected based on the following criteria:

  • motivation to improvise expressed in a few sentences of a cover letter;
  • team experience with ephemeral installations
  • The experience of team members as sculptors - (experience with snow sculptures is welcomed, but not required).

 

Number of participants per team
Each team can have a maximum of two participants.

Block size, improvisation rule:
The size of the blocks and the rules of improvisation will be announced during the opening night

Equipment and services provided by the SANCY festival. WHITE ART.
Sculptors must provide most of their tools to make their sculptures.
The festival offers a heated resting place and on-site baths and a place to store equipment. The festival also provides ladders, shovels and equipment needed to clean up the snow.

Expenses covered by the SANCY Festival. WHITE ART
The festival is able to provide financial assistance to pay for transport costs. The amount will be communicated later. We also offer you a hotel room per team for a maximum of five nights at the Puy Ferrand hotel. Meals will also be provided.
The Sancy. WHITE ART will not pay the personal expenses of the participants. Guests must leave a copy of the credit card upon check-in at the hotel.

How to reach Mont-Dore:
You can arrive by plane or train to Clermont-Ferrand.
Local transport between Clermont-Ferrand and the city of Mont-Dore will be provided by the festival and coordinated thereafter.

Aplication

There are no registration fees. Each team must send:

  • the registration form filled in with all relevant information (to be requested at the address below or at info@aiesm.com );
  • A short accompanying letter in a few sentences
  • Photographs of snow sculptures or others previously made by team members
  • A description of the experience of the team members.

 

The registration form must be completed and returned to the offices of the Nomad'art association by sending it to nomadart@outlook.fr  by December 2, 2019.
