ZUKUNFTSVISIONEN 2020 Festival for Contemporary Arts is looking for two artists in residence!
ZUKUNFTSVISIONEN 2020 will take place from the 23rd of May until the 1stof June 2020 in Görlitz.
ABOUT THE FESTIVAL
Since 2007 the ZUKUNFTSVISIONEN Festival has been taking place in spectacular, deserted places in Görlitz, shining a light on the city’s vacant buildings by hosting an exhibition within their walls. A different building opens its doors each year and is given a new lease of life for a short space of time. In 2020 the festival will take place in the Oktogon in Görlitz – a former gasometer. The festival aims to serve as a platform for regional and international contemporary artists. A rich and varied week of accompanying events will frame the exhibition itself. The festival organizers are led by the overarching idea to create an inspiring atmosphere for creative work that is both multicultural and free of prejudice. The festival team is made up of young people living in Görlitz, and each year gives the opportunity for new members to participate and take charge under the guidance of the Neisse Centre for Contemporary Arts e.V. A new addition for the 2020 iteration of the festival is Héctor Solari’s professional curatorial consultation.
THEME: The matter is the essence of our being.
It is that on which everything depends and follows on from. It is the barely tangible that supports each individual and society as a whole. We rely on the stability of the matter, despite often not knowing what constitutes it.To understand the principles of our actions we have to set the matter free, layer by layer, until it is revealed in its entirety. Once laid bare, the matter can be shaken to its core and its foundations set in motion.We originate from the same source and are connected to one another: molded by social structures, political systems and our environment, we balance precariously between the urge to develop freely and the desire to belong.The search for an identity, be it individual or collective, forces us to examine the matter anew as a fragile chain within society.This year, the ZUKUNFTSVISIONEN 2020 will be plumbing the depths of reality. Fundamentals will be redefined, cemented or torn down. A vacant building will serve as the backdrop for the discovery of matters, new and old.
