The international sculpture symposium on alabaster stone
The international sculpture symposium on alabaster stone was born with the vocation of consolidating this genuine ornamental stone, linked to the History of Art since antiquity. With an inclusive and open approach, the symposium aims to facilitate the exchange of art knowledge and experiences between artists of different cultures. This event is aimed to people who are already attracted by this mineral, whether from professional practice, research or training, or by interest on testing the sculptural qualities of alabaster. The symposium on alabaster is an event organized by the council of Albalate del Arzobispo with the collaboration of the District of Bajo MartĂn and several companies in the sector. Regulations concerning participation of Artists at the Sculpture Symposium.
The symposium will be held from November 15-28, 2021.
1. Professional artists who wish to apply for the International Sculpture Symposium in Alabastro must complete and submit the artist application either through the google form https://forms.gle/AjHKEk4FUkvo8ieX6Â before the deadline established below: Deadline for admission of applications: October 25, 2021.
2. The International Symposium of Sculpture in Alabaster will be held in the workshops of the Integral Center for Development of Alabaster (CIDA) in the town of Albalate del Arzobispo (Teruel, Spain). The last days the work will be carried out in the streets and squares of the town. At the end of the symposium there will be an exhibition of the works completed in the Cultural Space of Albalate del Arzobispo.
3. The material to be used will be alabaster. The format of the alabaster stone is irregular, with different color ranges. The approximate size will be half a cubic meter. The organization will provide artists with the necessary alabaster material for the realization of the works. Participants will contribute any other material they want to add to their work.
4. The theme of the sculptural project will be free.
5. The organization provides the selected artists:
a) Aid for transport up to € 200 by presenting travel tickets.
b) Meals during Sculpture Symposium on Alabaster.
c) Accommodation during Sculpture Symposium on Alabaster (in the municipal shelter, shared rooms with shared bath, laundry facilities and common areas).
d) local transportation (from Zaragoza Airport or Zaragoza-Delicias railway station to Albalate del Arzobispo and organized Symposium events).
e) a suitable work site,necessary utility services, materials and certain tools including:
- compressed air
- water
- electrical supply
- air hoses and electrical cords
- dust masks, gloves, safety goggles and ear protection.
- Work clothes: t-shirt (participants must bring their own safety boots or can be purchased at a nearby store. The use of safety boots is mandatory.
- Participants must bring their own electric machines, discs, blades, pneumatic tools (air drills), bits and pneumatic tools to carry out their work.
- The organization has community power tools (drill, large angle grinders ... 1 BOSCH angle grinder for each participant) community pneumatic tools (pneumatic drill, straight pneumatic grinder) blades, cups, bits, tools that can be used to support the tools brought by the artists.
- Secure storage space for artists' tools.

6. Safety Regulations and Equipment: Artist must support Sculpture Symposium on Alabaster safety and security measures and comply site, health and safety laws and regulations, as well as the COVID regulations in force at the time of the event. All municipal requirements and any other safety or security measures considered prudent by organitation´s symposium. If any selected artist requires customized safety equipment, the artist must provide such equipment at his/her expense. The selected artists must also supply their own personal tools such as hand chisels.
7. The organization of the Symposium is not responsible of the personal medical insurance of the participant. While the organization may agree, at its expense, to obtain limited third party liability insurance coverage relating to the activities carried out during the event, the selected artist should also obtain their own liability and property insurance. Selected artists must provide a personal health insurance certificate that covers their person while participating in the event.The organization of the Symposium is not responsible or liable at any time or for any reason (and whether occurring during the event, during any travel or otherwise) for personal injury of artists, damage or loss or theft of the property of the artists or any injury caused by the artists participating in the event.
8. Depending on their nationality, artists may require visas or work permits. The organization of the symposium will assist artists in these cincumstances but artists are solely responsible for obtaining all necessary travel documents (including valid passports, visas or work permits) to remain for the duration of the event.
9. Participants will receive the amount of six hundred euros (€ 600) as displacement after the execution of the project.
10. The works carried out during the Symposium will become the property of the City Council of Albalate del Arzobispo, so that they can be freely used by the same, without lucrative purposes.
11. The participants commit themselves to attend the presentations and visits that are scheduled, to remain in the place of the Symposium during the duration of the event, as well as to observe the safety norms indicated by the organization
12. Participation in the Symposium implies acceptance of the bases and rules of the Symposium.
