2nd International Sculptural Symposium Maltepe

In order to improve the architectural, artistic and landscape environment of the urban space, the aesthetic education of the population, as well as to strengthen international friendly and cultural ties, the 2nd International  Sculptural Symposium will be held in the Maltepe (Istanbul,Turkey).
 
Founder and organizer of the symposium: Maltepe Municipality (Istanbul District, Turkey).

Objectives of the symposium

  • the creation of sculptures in marble and their placement in the public environment in order to form the cultural environment and artistic appearance of the municipal district;
  • creation of favorable conditions for fruitful creative collaboration, exchange of experience between sculptors from different countries;
  • acquaintance of the general public with the tendencies of modern sculpture;
  • organization of a cultural program in the tourist region.

 
Participants of the symposium, place, time
Symposium participants: professional sculptors with experience in marble symposia.
Venue: Maltepe (Istanbul, Turkey);
Time spending:
Stage I: accepting applications until January 31, 2022.
Stage II: 01 - 31 August 2022.
 
Conditions of the symposium

  • Sculpture material: marble.
  • The required size of the sculpture is at least 2 m in the larger dimension (without a pedestal); the size of the pedestal is arbitrary.
  • It is proposed to perform sculptural works on the theme: "Love Always Wins".

 
Concept description:
Every shade of love
Every color of love matters.
Love is limitless.
Love is endless.
Love personifies all of humanity and all of nature .
 
The topic must be revealed in the traditions of the cultures of the Turkic peoples.
HOW TO APPLY:
The symposium is held on a competitive basis
Stage I - participants submit to the Organizing Committee until January 31, 2022  (on English or Turkish language):

  • application form (require to the email address below)
  • CV (Curriculum vitae);
  • 4 photos of completed monumental and decorative works in marble with a name, year and size;
  • a sketch of a future sculptural composition on the theme of the upcoming symposium in drawings, photographs or in a computer format - in several angles with a brief description and indication of dimensions;

 
To select the sketches, the organizers form a jury, which includes representatives of the Maltepe municipality, professional sculptors, artists, architects, specialists in the field of landscape architecture and design.

Based on the results of the 1st stage, the jury determines 12 projects - participants of the 2nd stage of the symposium. Symposium participants will be announced on February 28, 2022.
 
Stage II - performance by the participants of sculptural compositions in marble material on the basis of the approved project, in accordance with the terms and conditions of the symposium.

 

Obligations of the organizer

The organizer provides:

  • material for making sculptures: marble;
  • technique and tools for work:
  • compressor;
  • puncher;
  • corе drill;
  • diamond wire;
  • grinder 2600 watts;
  • grinder 1900 watts with speed control;
  • grinding and cutting diamond discs 230 mm, 125 mm;
  • grinding attachments and grinding wheels of different numbers;
  • semicircular convex diamond cups;
  • hammers - 1 kg and 1.5 kg;
  • large scarpels for cutting
  • respirators, etc.;
  • assistants;
  • Round-trip tickets;
  • transfer on the day of arrival (airport-hotel) and departure (hotel-airport);
  • accommodation in a single room at the hotel;
  • 3 meals a day;
  • provision of medical assistance in case of injury during work;
  • cultural program: acquaintance with the sights of Maltepe and Istanbul;
  • travel through the territory of the inviting party;
  • publication of a catalog based on the results of the symposium;
  • information support of the symposium in the media;
  • at the end of the symposium, a certificate of participation for each participant;
  • for the completed sculpture, each participant will be paid a fee of $ .2,000;
  • Obligations of the participant

 

Symposium participants undertake:

  • to complete the sculpture in accordance with the approved sketch and within the time frame agreed with the organizer;
  • have accident insurance (drawn up by a symposium participant);
  • be present at the workplace during the entire period of the symposium, except for the weekend announced by the organizing committee;
  • pay for personal expenses (drinks, telephone, travel and others not included in the symposium program) at the expense of the participants themselves;
  • donate the finished sculptures to the ownership of the organizer - the Municipality of Maltepe, which has the right to place them on the territory of the district.

 

Other conditions

The organizers reserve the right to take photos and videos during the symposium, post these materials on the Internet, print and electronic publications.
The author of the executed sculpture retains the right of authorship and other personal non-property rights.

Symposium calendar

July 30 - 31, 2022 - arrival of the symposium participants;
August 01 - the beginning of the symposium;
August 31 - closing of the symposium and the ceremony of presenting participants with certificates of participation, issuing fees and catalogs.
