SCULPTURE NEWS / NEW SCULPTURES
Two-part application process for the international Symposium organized by “Skulpturen Rheinland- Pfalz e.V.”
Art connects – creates, promotes and inspires peace and democracy. That was the most important reason for the association “Sculptures Rhineland-Palatinate” to become a partner in the international project “Road of Peace – Road of Sculptures in Europe – Otto Freundlich Gesellschaft eV” in 2011. Almost a hundred years ago, this German-Jewish artist (1878-1943) came up with the idea of using sculptures in the open countryside as a concrete sign of peace in Europe out of his pacifist convictions. In 1979 the sculptor Leo Kornbrust (1929-2021) discovered the almost lost trace of Otto Freundlich. Since then, this idea has been implemented. The goal is the realization of a sculpture road running across Europe, which is intended as a sign against war and should help to deepen understanding
between the individual countries. The west-east route (4,000 km) connects the Normandy coast with Moscow, the north-south route (1,500 km) Amsterdam with the Pyrenees. Today there are over 500 sculptures along both routes and an international network of art projects and peace initiatives has emerged.
1.0 Concepts
Especially nowadays, work for peace is more relevant than ever. This is the reason that our association, after many years of symposium work, would like to host a "Symposium for Peace and Democracy" in 2023. We therefore ask artists whose conception of sculpture goes beyond the point of view of observation to participate with an idea and a design. We look forward to your
interesting, new, and perhaps unusual ideas, which we would like to implement with you.
